Do it yourself Security
Are you looking to update your home security but do not want to pay for an expert to install any system for you? There are many home security systems you can install yourself and there is also individual products available that can be installed by you with ease and can be purchased at many retail outlets. The particular do-it-yourself security system that is right for you comes down to your budget, perceived threat of intrusion, and expertise.
One easy job you can do yourself is installing window and door contacts. All you need to know to do this job is a basic knowledge of how low-voltage wiring works, an electric drill, and knowing how to handle some of the basic hand tools.
You are also able to install some monitors and closed-circuit television cameras that are able to be hooked up to a videocassette or digital recorder to record any activity. You should not place cameras in areas that are expected to have privacy such as bedrooms and bathrooms. If you place cameras in these areas you may have legal actions taken against you. The places you should place cameras are commonly used areas of your home such as your living room or kitchen and outdoor areas such as the driveway and front and back door.
To make the do-it-yourself security setup even easier you might want to look into getting a wireless security system. This will save you time and money by not forcing you
to run expensive wiring through your house.
Most of the security systems available today come with wireless options and you are even able to get wireless cameras.
If you want the capability to record up to 24 hours on a single T-160 tape, which is convenient as you will only have to switch the security tape once a day, you will need to buy a time lapse VCR. You should also keep up to one week amount of video before getting rid of a tape.
If at all possible you should get a digital recording device for your do-it-yourself security system. If you are buying a digital recording device make sure to get one with 600 MB hard drive which will give you the capability to record 24 cameras with the video being saved for 30 days before you record over any previous images. One of the biggest advantages to this recording device is you are able to play the video back through your home computer and print still images through your printer.
Home security systems are becoming more of a good idea each day as the world is becoming more of a dangerous place. Do-it-yourself security systems are a great idea to upgrade your home security and any of the above devices should do just that.
